With outstanding views, fully refurbished Victorian elegance and contemporary style, this is a hotel that's sure to become a favourite with all who visit. Each of the signature suites are individual in style, decor and ambience. The Tower Suite, one of The Royal Horseguards Hotel event spaces, is the pinnacle of luxury. The suite offers stunning 180-degree views all the way from Canary Wharf to St Paul's. High ceilings, sumptuous furnishings and large windows make every room at The Royal Horseguards a quiet, spacious and comfortable retreat.

Award-winning 'One Twenty One Two' Restaurant has 2 AA Rosettes. The menu features fine contemporary cuisine using British artisan ingredients such as Scottish Salmon and South Coast Dover Sole. Afternoon tea in The Lounge is a favourite with guests and often has a live harpist performing. Those indulging in the art of Afternoon Tea will enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, savoury bites, exquisite pastries, freshly baked scones, homemade preserves and the best Cornish clotted cream.

The Royal Horseguards Hotel event spaces are suitable for corporate events and private celebrations. As well as this, it also enjoys the use of event spaces at One Whitehall Place, which adjoins the hotel. The stunning riverside Terrace looking out over Whitehall Gardens offers an ideal outdoor space for summer events and al fresco dining. The Terrace Room has direct access on to the terrace and can cater for a standing reception of up to 50 guests. The exceptional Library Suite is literature themed and decorated in sumptuous reds and golds - it is large enough to hold meetings or private dining events for up to 6. The Waterloo, London and Thames Suites offer meeting space with dedicated conference facilities for between 12 and 30 people. The Chelsea Suite is slightly larger and can cater for up to 40. The suite is air-conditioned, fully equipped with the latest AV and communications technology, and can be configured to guest requirements.

One Whitehall Place retains its original decor of magnificent tiled pillars, fireplaces, high ceilings and glittering chandeliers, creating a truly memorable setting for events. Home of the National Liberal Club the building offers a truly palatial space for a variety of meetings and events. With its period decor, grand marble staircase, glittering chandeliers and spectacular views over the River Thames and the London Eye, it's a magnificent setting for gala dinners, weddings and receptions.

History

The hotel was designed in the late 1880s by architects Archer & Green in the style of a French chateau. Originally built as a luxury apartment building it wasn't to become a hotel until 1971. During its time as a private residence the building was home to Dukes and Lords, as well as celebrities of the day including George Bernard Shaw and William Gladstone (British Prime Minister 1868 - 1874 and 1880 - 1885).

During World War I, the building played an important role in defence for the British government, housing secret meetings of MI6 on its eighth floor. The hotel opened in 1971, based in 1-2 Whitehall Court. It expanded in 1985 after the acquisition of the 140 bedrooms on the upper floors of the adjoining National Liberal Club at One Whitehall Place. Guoman Hotels purchased the hotel in 2008 and restored the property to its Victorian splendour.

The hotel's restaurant, One Twenty One Two is named after the famous telephone number of Scotland Yard police station, which was once located near the hotel at Whitehall 1212.
