Summer Lodge feels like home because that's what it was built for. With four acres of landscaped gardens, a croquet lawn, a heated indoor pool, and a health spa, Summer Lodge becomes your own private world – a secluded escape from the pressures of everyday life. This is a tranquil Wessex haven full of courtesy, charm, character, calm, and cuisine.
Summer Lodge Country House Hotel & Spa is tucked away in the picturesque village of Evershot in the heart of the beautiful Dorset Downs, yet only two hours by train from Waterloo, and within just over an hour of Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Southampton, Taunton and Bournemouth.
A Georgian Manor House, Summer Lodge offers 24 bedrooms and suites and is set in four acres of manicured gardens. The entire property has recently been completely restored to the highest of standards, with lavish fabrics, state-of-the-art technology and a host of thoughtful extras to make your stay extra special. The addition of the thatched roof cottages on the edge of the grounds also make for a romantic retreat.
As a venue for conferences and corporate getaways Summer Lodge is perfect in every way with its peaceful atmosphere which will ensure you focus your attention on the job at hand. The antique panelled Dorchester Suite provides everything you’ll need to accommodate a Boardroom style meeting for up to 16 delegates.
The intimate Dining Room overlooks the perfectly manicured lawn and gardens. Specialising in traditional English cuisine with European influences and together with an extensive wine cellar and award-winning Sommeliers you'll find it simply irresistible.
For relaxation there is a heated indoor pool area with sauna and steam room as well as a brand new spa facility to revive and restore well-being. There is also a well-equipped gym and a whole range of outdoor activities to choose from.
Built in 1798 as a dower house by the 2nd Earl of Ilchester, the property was enlarged in 1893 with a second floor added by the 6th Earl who commissioned his friend and local author, Thomas Hardy, (an architect by profession) to draw up the plans. The house was further modernised in 1932 by the last Earl to live in Dorset, when as Lord Stavordale, he brought his bride to live at Summer Lodge.
In 2003 the hotel came under new ownership with a complete refurbishment in order and is now receiving guests from all over who continually comment on its magnificence.
